This 3-day program is designed to provide School Resource Officers (SROs) with the essential tools and strategies to mentor students in K-12 schools. It covers a variety of topics, from understanding mentorship responsibilities to fostering positive relationships with students, faculty, and the community. The program includes a proposal, an outline, and a PowerPoint presentation.

Proposal: SRO Mentor Training Program

Purpose:

The purpose of this training program is to equip new and seasoned SROs with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become effective mentors for students in grades k-12. This program will focus on best practices, communication strategies, leadership, and crisis management, all of which are essential for a successful mentorship relationship.

Goals:

  • Mentorship Development: Build strong mentoring skills, focusing on communication, feedback, and relationship-building.
  • Practical Application: Provide real-world scenarios and case studies to foster hands-on learning.
  • Leadership and Guidance: Encourage mentors to model leadership and ethical decision-making for new officers.
  • Cultural Competence: Address diversity and inclusion in school environments, teaching mentors how to be culturally sensitive in their interactions.
  • Crisis and Conflict Management: Develop the ability to guide mentees through various school-related crises and conflict situations.

Target Audience:

Experienced School Resource Officers (SROs) who are ready to take on a mentorship role to guide and support new SROs entering the profession.

Duration:

3 Days-Flexible, based on availability of officers.
